Throughout the camp, campers will gather and craft with the season’s natural treasures—like petals, leaves, and twigs—while learning to identify, harvest, and use plants for both creative and medicinal purposes. They’ll create their very own herbal journal, documenting their journey with sketches, notes, and crafts inspired by the plants they discover.

Each day will be filled with exciting, interactive activities that connect campers to nature and to their own artistic expression. Starting in our garden, they’ll learn to harvest and identify late spring plants, flowers, and herbs. Along the way, they’ll discover each plant’s unique properties, learning how it’s used in herbal remedies and traditional healing practices.

The fun continues with nature-inspired art projects! Campers will create nature-based crafts, including pressed flower art and plein air paintings. They’ll also weave their own nature-inspired creations, make personalized medicine bags, and craft botanical weavings. And the adventure doesn’t stop there—campers will take home their very own little garden, continuing to nurture and care for the plants they’ve discovered.

Location information

Our camps will take place at two incredible locations that beautifully blend the creativity of art with the richness of nature: Wild Roots Studio & Herb Farm and Fort Collins Art Lab.

We’re thrilled to announce that Wild Roots Studio & Herb Farm is transitioning our 1-acre property and art studio into an urban medicine herb CSA farm. This exciting transition allows us to use our lush gardens for both education and art-making, giving campers a unique opportunity to harvest directly from the space for their projects. Located in the northwest part of Fort Collins, Wild Roots Studio offers a perfect indoor and outdoor learning environment. Surrounded by vegetable and herb gardens, this tranquil space is ideal for creating art under the beautiful Colorado sun. Campers will gather natural ingredients from the garden to inspire their art and herbal crafts, and enjoy wild snacks inspired by the plants around them.

Fort Collins Art Lab is a dynamic, experimental creative space nestled in the heart of Old Town Fort Collins. This community-supported venue serves as a hub for local artists, and our young creators will have the exciting opportunity to showcase their artwork in community art shows. What to Wear:

We will be doing some painting & nature play, so best to wear something you don’t mind your children to get messy. We do provide paint shirts and aprons but they don’t always cover everything. Its nice to pack an extra change of clothes in case we get wet or muddy during nature walks. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes or sport sandals (no flip flops). For camps located at the Art Lab, we often eat lunch in the Old Town Square where some kids like to bring swimsuits & a towel for some fountain playtime.

What to bring to camp

SOLO TIME BOOKS OR PROJECTS:
Each day we have take few moments of quiet time. We call these Solo Time. They offer us a soulful moment to relax and center ourselves in the midst of our busy summer days. During Solo Time we ask children to find something to do quietly by themselves while we play peaceful music. This maybe a book, drawing, journal, finishing a project we are working on, lego project, laying down to rest, painting, etc. Your child is welcome to bring a book or small project from home to enjoy during Solo Time. (No screens please.)

INSPIRATION FROM NATURE: Nature items found between now and camp are awesome great for incorporating into their art. Feel free to collect twigs, sticks, pine cones, stones, seeds and other nature bits and bring them into camp. There is something great about using nature items that are hand-picked and collected by the child. The art then has a story beyond our camp. No worries, if you don't bring nature items to camp...that is fine too! We always have plenty of natural items to share and will likely do some nature walks to find more.

FOOD & DRINK: Please send them with a large water bottle, big lunch and 2 designated snacks (one for morning and one for afternoon).

SUNSCREEN & BUG REPELLENT: Please pack sunscreen for your child with your child's name on it. If the day starts off sunny, please bring them with sunscreen already applied. Sunhats or layers of light clothes are great options too. Feel free to pack some mosquito repellent if you would like as it can get buggy in the shade during nature walks or while painting outdoors.

Your child is unique!

It is our wish that each child feels like they may come to Wild Roots camps as themselves. Whether they are shy, wild, needing a bit of warm up time, active, in need of some help to make friends…whatever they might need….it is our hope that each child feels comfortable, cared for and allowed to explore their unique creativity during their time with us. We are always open to modifying our schedule, projects and approach to assure children are having fun and feeling comfortable. We hope that their time spend with us is remembered as enjoyable, a place where they create new friendships, make some special works of art and connect to the wonder of mother nature.
