Wild Roots Studio
After-School Workshops

A little about Wild Roots...

Wild Roots Studio was founded in 2013, in hopes to offer nature-based art workshops that support the wild exploration of one’s creativity and the strengthening of our connection to nature, ourselves and each other.

Wild Roots supports the ideas that sustainability starts with our daily choices of what we value and care for.  It is our belief that a concern and care for the Earth is typically sparked as children experience the magic and wonder of nature. We feel nature based art is a great way to deliver this experience.

What to expect in our After-School Nature Art Workshops...

In our After-School Nature Art Workshops we create art with natural and/or recycled materials. Sometime we use the colder months to create art projects that explore our inner landscapes (for example: self-portraits or community art projects). Often, we like to team our art projects with a theme or lesson. The workshop would begin with a circle where we would share stories, activities and/or lessons on the workshop theme before guiding them into the project. Projects are completed within 1-2 class periods depending on time and complexity of art work. Thus, for each 4 week session childen would complete 2-3 art projects.

Some examples of art workshops include:

Nature Mandalas & Earth Looms – Lessons & Activities centering on Seasons or Native Plants.
Dreams Catchers – Stories of the Dream Catcher Legend
River Stones – Lesson on Water Conservation
Community Heart Art – Stories & Lessons on Unity
Botanical Dyes – Plant Lessons
Clay Nature Prints – Learning How Clay is make from Indigenous Soil
Recycled Paper Mache Bowls – Lessons focused on Recycling
Journey Sticks – Stories of how Indigenous people used Journey Sticks as maps.
Winter Lanterns – Lessons on Winter Solstice
